aka Western Anemone, Western Pasque-flower, Towhead Babies, Wind Flower, Mouse-on-a-stick, Moptop . The common name means 'Easter flower' in reference to its early blooming. A favorite for its large showy bowl-like flower which can be up to 3" (7 cm) wide and for the fascinating mophead look when in fruit. They flower as soon as the stem punches through the snow. The stems are covered with white hairs and reach about 1' and then extend up to 2' in height when in fruit. Found in subalpine meadows to 6,500' elevation. (ref. Blackwell)
