Genus: Ligusticum for name by Dioscorides of plant from Liguria in Italy
Species: grayi after Asa Gray, Harvard botanist, or S. F. Gray, British botanist
aka Gray's Licorice-root, Sheep Wild Lovage. The more common of the two species found in Rainier. The umbel is smaller and more open than Canby's Lovage and has 7 - 10 rays. The stem is also shorter raising to 8" - 24" (20 - 60 cm). The stem may also have a single small leaflet (see leaf detail). Common and found in meadows, along streams and open and forested slopes between 5,000' to 7,000' elevation. (ref. Biek)
