Elkslip Marsh Marigold, Caltha leptosepala ssp. leptosepala

Family: Ranunculaceae - BUTTERCUP FAMILY
Genus: Caltha from Greek kalathos 'goblet'
Species: leptosepala from lepto 'thin' and sepals
aka White Marsh Marigold, Alpine White Marsh Marigold, Mountain Marsh Marigold. The fleshy leaves usually appear immediately after the snow melts. There is usually only one flower per stem which can be 2" - 12" (5 - 30 cm) tall. The flower is very attractive, white to greenish and may have a ting of blue and is approximately 1 1/2 " wide. Usually found near snow-beds, streambanks (or in streams), seepage areas between 5,000' to 7,000' elevation. note: a marsh marigold is also shown in the forest zone, elev. 4,900', and could also be an Elkslip.
