Yellow Monkeyflower, Mimulus guttatus

Family: Scrophulariaceae - FIGWORT FAMILY
Genus: Mimulus is the diminutive of mimus, a 'mimic' or buffoon (ref. Clark)
Species: guttatus means spotted or 'speckled'
aka Common Monkey Flower, Seep Monkeyflower. This mimulus is characterized by relatively large, up to 1 3/4" (2 -4 cm), bright yellow trumpet shaped flowers that expand into two lips. The throat is hairy and there are one large or several smaller crimson to brownish-red spots on the lower lip. The stems range in height from 8" - 24" (20 - 60 cm). Common throughout the park and found alongside roads (the featured flower), seepage areas, along streams usually below 4,500' elevation.
