Notes:

Thimbleberry, Rubus parviflorus

Family:Rosaceae - ROSE FAMILY
Genus: Rubus means bramble, blackberry, and suggests red for 'ruby'
Species: parviflorus means 'small-flowered'
The species name is somewhat misleading in that the flower is relatively large, up to 2" (5 cm) across. The beautiful blossum has five petals which appear fragile and crinkled like muslim (ref. Clark). The shrub can grow to 10' but along trials it appears to be about half that. The berries become bright red and because they are coarse and seedy native peoples usually dried them (ref. Pojar). Common in open places along trials, roadsides, avalanche chutes, etc. up to about 4,000' elevation.
