Oregon Stonecrop, Sedum oreganum

Family: Crassulaceae - STONECROP FAMILY
Genus: Sedum comes from Latin 'to sit' referring to squatty thick nature

There are four members of the stonecrop family in Rainier, three with brillant yellow flowers. All have short, thick and succulent stems. S. oreguanum rises only 4 - 8" (10- 20 cm) above the ground. The leaves are spoon-shaped or nearly round, thick, fleshy and glossy appearing ready to pop. The highly attractive flowers have five narrow lance-shaped petals, usually less than a 1/2" long. Uncommon in Rainier, found on rocky open sites (see alternate view) below 5,500' elevation.
