Orange Agoseris, Agoseris aurantiaca

Family: Asteraceae -SUNFLOWER FAMILY, ASTER FAMILY (Compositae)
Genus: Agoseris is old Greek meaning 'goat chicory'
Species: aurantiaca means 'orange-red'
ake Orange Mountain Dandelion, Slender Agoseris. Unlike most composites, but consistent with dandelions, the flowerhead has only ray flowers (no central disk). The solitary head is 1" - 1 1/2" (2 - 3 cm) and is a remarkable burnt orange which may fade to pink or purple. Petal tips are squared off with interesting jagged edges. The stems grow to 4 - 24". Found in open drier areas, grassy slopes, to at least 5,000' elevation. (ref. Blackwell)
