There are two sub-species of Caltha leptosepala in the Park: ssp. howellii, White Marsh Marigold and ssp. leptosepala, Elkslip Marsh Marigold. It is not clear which of the two is represented here. Both are shown and clearly identified in the Subalpine Zone; the Elkslip at 5,830' elevation and the White at 6,400'. For now, this example of a beautiful marsh marigold in a forest environment at a slightly lower elevation will remain as a representative marigold in the forest zone.
