Species: lyallii for David Lyall, naturalist and M.D.
aka Little Mountain Anemone, Thimbleweed. While Lyall's Anemone is rare in Mt. Rainier NP this flower possesses a key feature for its identification. The stem leaves have 3 - 5 leaflets that are on short stalks whereas the Three-leaved Anemone, A. deltoidea, which is otherwise very similar, has three undivided leaves without stalks. The alternate view shows six petals, actually sepals, also unusual. One source (ref. Clark) has a photo with the purple color and with six sepals. Rare, found in forests to 5,000' elevation. (ref. Clark, Biek)
