Genus: Disporum means 'two seeds' (there's a pair in each division of the ovary)
Species: hookeri after Joseph Hooker (1817-1911), a colorful English botanist
aka Small-flowered Fairy-bell. The greenish-white delicate flowers, usually in pairs, dangle from stems which can grow to 3' (1 m). The stems have few branches and the leaves are quite thin and have a wilted look. Stamens extend well below the spreading petals. In fall, a yellow to orange-red egg-shaped berry appears.Related plant is D. smithii (possibly the featured flower here) where the flowers usually cluster in groups of three to five. Common in moist forests below 3,000' elevation. (ref. Biek, Clark, Blackwell)
