Species: fimbriolata means 'fringed' in reference to the petals
One of the non-green forest saprophytes. This is a difficult plant to initally discern since it looks like a fungus. However, look closely to see clusters of small tubular flowers with four or five petals with jagged, or "fringed" edges. After protruding above the ground it can reach 2 1/2 - 5" (6 - 12 cm), although the speciman in the alternate view is somewhat taller. Uncommon in Rainier and is listed as "watch" on the endangered list. Found in rich humus of deep woods probably below 4,500'. (ref. Biek, Blackwell)
