Species: fimbriata for the 'fringed' bases of the petals
A very showy single flower atop a single stalk with a distinctive clasping leaf about half way up makes this a special find. The flower has five creamy white petals with greenish viens. Fleshy hairs fringe the base of petals which are the reproductive parts (stamens and staminodia, a sterile stamen). The stem is usually between 8 - 16" (20 - 40 cm) tall. Although commom it can be easily overlooked. Found in moist areas, meadows and along streams, but usually above 4,000 ft. (ref. Biek)
