Genus: Maianthemum means 'May flower' in reference to early blooming
Species: dilatatum means 'spread out' or extended
aka Two-leaved False Solomon's Seal, Wild Lily-of-the-Valley, Deerberry, Beadruby. Atop a stem of usually four to twelve inches (10 - 30 cm) is a single raceme of tiny beadlike berries which turn from green to white and into tiny white flowers that appear fuzzy due to their protruding stamens (ref. Blackwell). Later small red berries form. The leaves (usually two) are heart-shaped and proportionately large, two to four inches long and appear shiney (the featured flower was taken in the rain). Common in moist woods below 4,000 ft.
