Silver-leaf Phacelia, Phacelia hastata

Family: Hydrophyllaceae - WATERLEAF FAMILY
Genus: Phacelia from Greek phakelos 'afascicle' or close bundle or cluster
Species: hastata means 'spear-shaped'
Called 'silverleaf' because of the fine silvery hairs on its leaves, which are shaped like spears or arrows and are up to 4.5" (12 cm) long. A low plant usually hugging the rocky surface with stems 4" - 12" long. The bell-shaped flowers are whitish to purplish, about 1/4" across, with multiple protruding stamens which give a 'fuzzy' look. Usually found on dry rocky flats and talus slopes between 4,000' to 7,000' elevation. (ref. Biek, Pojar)
