Genus: Luina is an anagram of 'Inula', a Eurasian genuswisted foot'
Species: hypoleuca means 'pale or whitish beneath'
This beautiful plant is the signature plant of this web site (see the photo on the home page which includes the featured flower and first trail view shown here). Numerous stems reach 1' (30 cm) tall and form clumps which may be 3' across. The pale yellow flowerheads are disk flowers only (no rays) and are about 3/4" broad. The oval leaves are shiny and dark green on top but have white woolly undersides. Usually found on open rocky slopes and ridges, cliff crevices and talus slopes to about 7,000' elevation. (ref.
