Notes:

Hybrid Arnica, Arnica diversifolia

Family: Asteraceae - SUNFLOWER FAMILY, ASTER FAMILY (Compositae)
Genus: Arnica derived from Greek arnakis, a 'lamb's skin'
Species: diversifolia means differently or variously shaped leaves
aka Diverse Arnica. There are eight species of arnicas in the Park and are often the yellow-flowered plants that we see in meadows and along streams. Three species are considered rare, A. diversifolia, A. rydbergii, and A. longifolia. Arnicas are more common at lower elevations except for these three. Thought to be a complex hybrid including A. cordifolia since the heart-shaped leaves are apparent with the largest pair about 2" (8 cm) long. Rare in the Park most likely at the upper elevation of the subalpine zone and lower reaches of the alpine zone. (ref. Biek, Pojar)
