Notes:

Boreal Sandwort, Minuartia rubella

Family: Caryophyllaceae - PINK FAMILY
Genus: Minuarita after Juan Minuart, 18th-century Spanish botanist
Species: rubella means 'reddish'
aka Beautiful Sandwort, Boreal Stitchwort, Reddish Sandwort, Vernal Sandwort, Arenaria Rubella . One source (Clark) states that identification of this specie is often difficult even for the professional botantist. Previously this was shown as Artic Sandwort on this site based on a description in Blackwell in reference to the "pink anthers". Very thin flowering stems, more erect than the Alpine Sandwort, reach 4" (10 cm). Admittedly more field work needed. Fairly common on rocky ridges and talus slopes between 5,000' - 7,000' elevation. (ref. Biek, Clark, Pojar)
